Village located on a lake in Africa. Ganvie is a strange village built on Lake Nokoue, just one hour north of the city of Cotonou, the administrative capital and the largest city in the Republic of Benin (a country in West Africa). The entire village stood in the middle of the lake. With a population of about 20,000 people, it is the largest lake village in Africa and is very popular among tourists.
People believe that Tofinu tribes have settled here since the sixteenth century or seventeen and build their lake village to escape from the bondage of the Fon tribe , a tribe that is not allowed to enter the water because of religion . This makes the lake into safe territory for other tribes . Tofinu people build their homes on the water and about 500 years ago , the village of Ganvie has also developed a complex culture and prosperous in all the limitations living in the lake .
All houses in Ganvie , shops and restaurants built on a wooden platform a few feet above the water . Ganvie village also has a floating market where the village women showing their wares . The city also has a piece of land , which is in use for the village school . All the land transport by using their boats , and they have set about carrying more land so that they too can make a funeral .
Most of the people gavie relies on fishing and tourism for their income . There are several restaurants where you can stop to eat some delicious fresh fish and rice and a few scattered shops selling trinkets to tourists.
